Singlehood: Two kinds of feelings

Singlehood is a combination of two kinds of feelings. One is a feeling of unfulfilment or dissatisfaction. You feel the need to share life with someone and the presence of your better half whenever you need him/her. However, do not let this feeling of unfulfilment or dissatisfaction overpower the feeling of self esteem and fulfillment.

Singlehood teaches you to stay happy all by yourself. It teaches to become independent and prepares you to solve problems on your own. It gives you an opportunity of self exploration and have deep insights into yourself. You can utilize the free time in pursuing your hobbies such as painting, reading, pottery, gardening etc. If interested, social work can be undertaken along with initiatives for some serious campaigns to spread awareness among the masses. This way, single people can make a difference to other people’s lives and contribute to the well being of the society.

The second feeling is the feeling of boredom and unhappiness which leads to self pity and even to depression in certain cases. There might be times when single people miss the company of a loved one in middle of a romantic movie, or when they have a free weekend ahead. Some people start attributing their singlehood to their physical looks and thereby indulge in self pity. It is important for single people to cherish this state as a self realization phase in life.

Single people should learn to live life to the fullest. They should make friends and go out for dinners, movies, social parties and other events. They can form a group of their own with people of similar interests and hobbies. Also, single people have the opportunity of dating. However, they should not become serial daters. Dating should be done as a means to find a serious match and to build a long term relationship.
